Concerning the establishment of the «Alliance PRO» translation services

The «Alliance PRO» translation services was established by the freelance translator Yevgeniy Bartov and the entrepreneur Anna Kruglova. We asked Yevgeniy Bartov, one of the founders of the "Alliance PRO" company, about the company's plans and objectives.
Can you please tell us, why did you decide to start a translation company?
I have been occupied with translations while still attending school. At first I translated school topics for my classmates, and then, as a student in the faculty of foreign languages, I started doing translations for my friends. My fellow students had a good command of English, so they did not require my assistance with translations.
In 1998, I began providing fee-based language services – translating homework assignments for students taking correspondence courses.
By 2006 I was already working in Moscow as a staff translator for an international company. I could not improve my translation skills at this job, because all translations were focused on simple business correspondence.
And thus I decided to try my hand at becoming a professional translator - I prepared a resume and sent it out to several Moscow translation agencies.
My first order was quite difficult, but fortunately the client greatly appreciated the quality of my translation. This was just the motivation I needed to continue my professional development as a translator.
By the end of 2006, I was already busy with many orders, because almost all the translation agencies I worked for liked the quality of my translations, and some agencies even offered me a permanent position as an editor. I must admit, that these invitations flattered me, and confirmed that I was a highly valued specialist.
At the beginning of 2007, with my fiancée and ideological inspiration, Anna Kruglova, I decided to try to reshape by work. We already had a clear understanding of what was needed to produce a good quality translation, and we decided on the procedures we would follow: I would be doing the editorial work, while a team of translators performed the translations.
After that, it seemed that that we were lacking only one small ingredient – a good team of translators. At that time we called it as Association of Professional Translators "RU-EN-RU". We created the www.ru-en-ru.com website, and began to attract translators.
And this is when we realized that not all translators approached their profession as seriously and as conscientiously, as we did. In many cases we had to practically translate the whole document from the start, of course such translators were filtered out after their first order. Because of this I needed to develop test translations, by which I could at least filter out those translators, which I believed lacked the competence we needed.
Within six months we managed to bring together a solid core of translators, tuned up our selections process, and organized our order and invoice processing system. In short, we "took our lumps” in the translation business.
And then we also learned that in Russia there are two translation markets which are equally popular – a high-quality translations market and the market for inexpensive amateur translations. Anna and I were convinced that the future of the translation market lay in high-quality translations. So we decided to create a company which would only focus on the highest possible quality translations.
What goals you have set for yourselves to achieve success?
The goals are simple: making sure that our clients are successful. If they are successful, we will be successful as well. How can we do this? We just need to help the client understand his or her priorities; find the optimum "price/quality" balance for each individual project and to ensure that our actions match our promises.
If we are translating marketing materials, our goal is not to damage the image of our client and strive to provide the most accurate, elegant and "rich" translations. Economizing is certainly useful, but in these situations – economizing at the expense of a client’s image, should never be a priority.
In translating contracts, one does not need an exquisite style, so one can economize here, but it is important the final translation most accurately reflects the legal implications of each word. Therefore, for such translation we only use experts in the field of legal translations.
Tell us briefly about the structure of your company.
It is early to talk about the structure today; this still needs to be created. At the moment I fulfill the tasks as the customer service manager, project manager and editor. Anna is the accountant, customer service manager and human resources manager.
Company development questions we decide together. What happens next, only time will tell. But, if our predictions about the demand for high quality translations prove correct - then company should have a great future.
What are the prospects for the development of your business?
I do not like making guesses. We have many plans and ideas, but which of these will enjoy the most demand in the market - we will see later.
Just the same, we are in constant contact with our customers, competitors and translators, and study and analyze the information we obtain. We will make very effort to sell interesting "products" on the market, and try to avoid repeating the mistakes that our competitors, and we, might have made in the past.
