Text translation using the TM technology
DEFINITION
A database system for storage of completed translations.
TECHNOLOGY
BUSINESS CASE
A database system for storage of completed translations.
TECHNOLOGY
TM technology works by collecting completed translations: in the course of translation, the TM stores the source sentence (segment) and its translation. When a new text requires translation, the system scans it and compares every segment in it with segments stored in the database. If an identical or similar segment is found, the existing translation for that segment is shown along with the level of similarity between the segments (match) in percent. Words and phrases in a similar segment, which are different in the new text, are highlighted. This technology is also used in the terminology control system. For example, if a word in the text must be translated as “agreement”, the system will automatically remind the translator of this, ensuring that alternatives are not used inappropriately.
